A Father’s Instruction
God’s view found in: Proverbs 4:2
Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention that you may gain understanding, For I give you sound teaching;
Just thinking: One of the ways that satan has culturally deceived Christian Americans including myself is found in today’s proverb. I’ve have read over and over in the bible God saying, listen. Listen to God, listen to your father and mothers teaching, bind them to your heart, pay attention. I find myself getting so busy doing good things for God, that I miss the great opportunities. I sacrifice the Great for the good because I am in a hurry, I don’t stop and listen, I don’t take the time to pray about a situation or ask counsel before making a decision. I am in such a hurry to accomplish that next task that I miss out on God’s best. God promises to give sound teaching if I would only stop and listen to counsel.
My part: I need to take steps of faith and learn to trust God. By my not waiting, seeking counsel or praying about something means that I am self dependent and I am sinning! Romans 14 say’s and whatever is not done by faith is sin. The deception of the devil is that, if he can get me to act without thinking, then I will not be as useful in the hands of God. God is willing to give me sound teaching and counsel if I would only stop.
God’s Promise: Psalm 46:10 says
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
Ps. The Be Still in this verse means to stop, or to shut-up and know!
